After 4 months using Kubuntu, I decided to delete that installation and install Fedora with Gnome, again. I really like KDE 4, but Ubuntu is not for me. Fedora has been for years my favorite linux distribution. KDE 4 is very impressive, cool and fresh, but still requires a lot of capacity by the machine and because of that is very slow and heavy.

Another thing is that although Ubuntu is a good distribution has reached a point where there has not been a notable progress in their latest releases. I can't enumerate and define negative features on Ubuntu, but since Hardy Heron i do not like it anymore.

At the end, I'm back to Fedora+Gnome, this is a screenshoot:

I'm kind of tired of these myths: "linux is for geeks", "linux is ugly", "linux is not easy" and many more... Let's be real, we'll be never able to explain why people do not install linux, but there are some stupid myths around linux, windows and mac...

Windows is not too bad.

I can't really explain why some people could say that... every day hundreds of viruses and bugs are discovered, a common user have to reinstall windows every 2 or 3 months! and "windows is not too bad"! for real?

Linux is Ugly.

Really? This is my Desktop... is this ugly?

KDE 4.3.1

Linux is not friendly...

I really do not know why people say this... We can choice between many desktop enviroments and personalize these enviroments really easy... I really like KDE but some of my friends likes GNOME, others XFCE and many more. And we can install all this enviroments for free just doing click. This is how my desktops looks like normally when I'm not working:

Amarok, Twitter and Firefox on Linux

There is too hard to find the programs.

What?! We just need to do a click to see all the applications installed by default.

menu on kde 4

Install programs and updates is not easy as on Windows or Mac?

There is something easy than just click? On linux we do not need to search on Internet to find an application. All we need to do is just click and linux find the application, download from internet, install and configure the application for us. Also we have a cron that search for updates periodically, when there is an Update we jus have to click and that's it!

KPackageKit

Windows have better effects than Linux

Really? Windows can do this?

Cube on KDE 4.3.1

Multimedia and Hardware support on Linux

If Adobe do not wants to launch their applications for Linux... Is not Linux fault! Face it! Besides many companies are writing drivers por linux as Intel, HP, ATI, GeFroce, Dell, HP...

Too many Linux Distributions

What is the exact problem? That people do not like to read a second and know what they are doing, not a problem of Linux or Free Software.

The command line is old school

A common user does not need to write a single command to do common tasks, but anyways the "man" command explain how to use all commands on linux.

Yakuake on KDE 4.3.1

Conclusion.

There are more reasons than these stupid myths about why people do not use Linux... there are many stupid myths about this... some people say that Linux is just for Geeks, but those people who say that do not know nothing about linux. That's all! Linux is for Everyone!

These are my top 5 reasons about Why do I use linux...

Reason #1: I use Linux because I want to. Is not just because linux is better, the main reason is because I want to use Linux, I need no other reason.

Reason #2: Freedom. I'm free to do whatever I want to on Linux by Free. I can change everything if I want to. I don't have to pay anything, I have full control of my system.

Reason #3: Security. Free of Viruses!!!...

Reason #4: Upgrades. I always got all upgrades by free

Reason #5: Many choices. I can chosse between many applicacions, desktops, distributions, packages... all by free.

Technically Linux is better... but, if this is not enought, I have more many reasons... that's it.

Canonical released version 0.1 of its new project Quickly aimed at simplifying the process of developing and distributing applications for Linux. This provides a framework and a utility for command line to generate code for projects, saving changes to a system for version control, build and release software packages over.

Quickly use a template system (templates) that defines special behavior for different types of projects. The default template (ubuntu-project) will help users to build applications with Python and Glade.

Quickly helps you create software programs (and other things) quickly. You can select from a set of application templates and use some simple quickly commands to create, edit code and GUI, and publish your software for others to use. Quickly's templates are easy to write. So if you are a fan of language foo, you can create a foo-project template. Or if you want to help people making plugins for your killer app, you can make a killer-app-plugin template. You can even create a template for managing corporate documents, creating your awesome LaTeX helpers The sky is the limit!

Google is the coolest thing over Internet, but there are some points that I hate about Google.

Google Chrome is not supported on Linux. The best web- browser ever is not supported on Linux and is very disappointing because Chrome has a complete Javascript Debugger and a very usefull console, besides it is very fast. Now, rumors says that they going to launch a version for Linux and Mac in mid 2008, I think we just have to wait.

Google Gadget Designer is very limited on Linux. I recently installed Google Gadget for Linux and I really like it, but the tool that Google give us to create gadgets in linux is ver poor, practically build this gadgets using gEdit is better than using the Google Gadget Designer.

Google Earth is too heavy on Linux. I can't complain because I have a powerfull PC, but anywasy Google Earth is very heavy when is running on Linux.

Google Talk is not supported on Linux. I could use Pidgin to use my Google IM service, but now Google Talk counts with video support and even for Messenger IM Service, Pidgin do not support Video.

The map of my country is very poor. The Google Map for Dominican Republic is very very poor and the developers like me can't use that service to create interactive applications related with address and stuff.

Google doesn't show the same results regardless of country. Perhaps this is a great feature for those developed countries like USA, Spain, UK... but for countries like the Dominican Republic and others is a big mistake because these regions have very little content worth.

Google Gadgets do not work properly in Linux. I do not know why but when the computer goes long without activity "Google Gadgets" is exploited.
